Biography

As a member of RCGT’s Recovery and Reorganization group since 2000, Mr. Phaneuf has participated in the restructuring of many companies in several different sectors.

Indeed, Mr. Phaneuf has developed specific expertise in highly complex matters of insolvency and fraud, as well as in cases related to the financial sector and to digital assets/cryptocurrencies. His solid international experience includes, among others, working for Grant Thornton UK in London on several major cases.

Mr. Phaneuf has worked on several trusteeship and/or receivership assignments, including Mount Real Corporation and Triglobal Capital Management. He also played an active role in the liquidation of Union of Canada Life Insurance and the investigations of Ivest Fund and Focus Management.

Furthermore, Mr. Phaneuf is the person in charge at Raymond Chabot Administrateur Provisoire inc. in the matter of the receivership of Dominic Lacroix, which is associated with the Plexcorp (plexcoin) project.

Mr. Phaneuf holds a master’s degree in finance from the Hautes Études Commerciales Montréal. He is also a CIRP and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee. A well-renowned speaker, he is deeply involved in the educational program at the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals. He chaired the drafting committee for the CIRP National Insolvency Exam in 2010, 2011 and 2015, and sat on the oversight and commercial practice committees. Mr. Phaneuf joined the CAIRP board of directors in 2019.
