Jean-François Trépanier has more than 15 years of experience at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton where he is currently a member of the firm’s professional standards group. He also serves as a technical advisor for Catallaxy, the Montréal-based blockchain expertise centre powered by Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton.
Mr. Trépanier also plays an international role as a member of the team responsible for Grant Thornton’s global audit methodology and tools. Using his in-depth knowledge of assurance standards, he works with auditors to resolve complex audit issues and to adapt to the opportunities and challenges created by technology, including AI and blockchain.
Mr. Trépanier plays a leadership role in the CPA profession, as a member of the Canadian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, the standard-setting body for audit, assurance and related services engagements. He leverages his knowledge of assurance standards and blockchain technology, and strong communication skills in different working groups and speaking engagements:
• Member of the CPA Canada Auditing Crypto-Assets Working Group;
• “Understanding the Benefits and Risks of Blockchain”, 2018, presented at an event of the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association (PRMIA);
• “Blockchain and AI: Impacts on Investment Portfolio”, 2018, presented at the annual conference of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits (IFEBP);
• “Auditing Implications of Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies”, 2018, presented at the annual training session of a regulatory body.
Mr. Trépanier was awarded the 2015 CPA Award of Excellence – Research of the Ordre des CPA du Québec.
